Read a Picture PowerPoints and Worksheets A set of PowerPoints covering different reading skills. Each PowerPoint also has a set of worksheets. Sequencing and Predictions PowerPoint A set of ten pictures each with sequencing and prediction activities. For the prediction activities, children need to answer questions about the picture eg what do you think happened before the fish found the treasure chest or what do you think will happen next. For the sequencing activity, children need to sequence sentences about the picture or complete sentences explaining what they think happened in the story. For each picture children have to identify a word within the sentences for example the word that describes the cakes or the word that tells you what the bird is doing. Once they have identified the word and talked about it’s meaning they then need to find other words that they could use instead for example they could replace large with huge, oversized. For the next activity children need to read a sentence and talk about what they think one of the words within the sentence means. This activity PowerPoint introduces children to new vocabulary and encourages them to use the picture and the whole sentence to discuss what they think words mean. For some children they will be able to read the sentences independently however for other children I will read the sentence to them or with them depending on their ability. For the retrieval activity, children need to look at the picture and then answer retrieval questions about the picture. For the imagination activity, children look at the picture and answer questions involving their imagination. This gives the children the opportunity to explain their thinking. HFW Reading Intervention A reading intervention covering 100 high frequency words/HFW. The words are split into 13 sets with five activities for children to complete for each set. The activities are - read the words, find and colour the star words, match and colour words starting with upper and lower case letters, read the sentences including hfw and use the picture to fill in the missing word and read the sentences and draw a picture to match the sentences. Please note that the sets do not contain equal numbers of words due to needing to construct sentences that make sense. Aimed at Early Years and Year 1 children. The PowerPoint can be used as a whole class activity or with small groups during guided reading sessions. These activity sheets are designed to encourage children to read or listen to sentences and then to visualise what the sentences are trying to convey. The activity sheets encourage children to look or listen for and respond to clues within the text. Visualisation is an important skill for children to develop and will support them in their future reading especially as they move on to longer texts with less pictures. This set of Visualisation Activity Sheets starts with five simple visualisation activities for example I am thinking of a black cat, children then need to visualise and draw a black cat. The activities then move on to visualising where, who and when. The last five activity sheets then require the children to visualise why something is happening. The Visualisation Activity Sheets can be used during guided reading sessions and the children really enjoy creating their own pictures. The sheets also open up opportunities for discussion. Five adjective games aimed at Key Stage 1 children. Adjective Loop/Follow Me Cards A set of 20 adjective loop/follow me cards. Each card features a picture and a list of three adjectives. Children must listen carefully to the three adjectives and see if they match the picture on their card. These cards can be started on any card. Children enjoy playing this game and it teaches them to think about adjectives. Using Adjectives Game A set of 4 game boards focusing on using adjectives. Each game board features a picture scene and numbered squares. Some squares contain an instruction for children to follow eg say 2 adjectives to describe the sky or find something in the picture that is unusual. Children enjoy playing the game and using adjectives. The game encourages children to use a range of adjectives and introduces children to new adjectives. These game boards can be printed on A3 paper and laminated to be used more than once. Adjectives Bingo A set of 9 different bingo boards containing pictures of toys and a set of adjective clues. Children must listen to the adjective clues and check if they have a picture that matches the adjective clues. Fill in the Adjective Game A game focusing on adjectives. The game includes five pictures with sets of sentences to match each picture. Each sentence has a space for an adjective eg The ________ moon is shining in the sky. Children have to think of an adjective to go in the space. If children think of an adjective that nobody else thinks of then they win a point. The aim of the game is to collect three points to win. Children enjoy playing the game and sharing their adjectives. Match the Adjective Game A set of ten pictures and 40 adjective cards. Children select a picture and then pick an adjective card. If children can use the adjective in a sentence about the picture then they keep the card. The aim of the game is to collect three cards to win. This game introduces children to a range of adjectives and encourages children to use these adjectives in sentences.

Capital Letters Activity An English activity focusing on capital letters, when to use them and what they look like. The PowerPoint shows the children all capital letters and the children then practise writing the capital letters. Children then write the capital letter to match the lower case letter. The Capital Letter Monster then eats some of the capital letters from the alphabet and children have to identify which letters have been eaten and write the capital letters on their whiteboards. Children are then shown sentences with missing capital letters and have to fill in the missing letters. The children will enjoy the fun element of having a monster eating the capital letters and I have used this in class when children have forgotten capital letters in their written work. Full Stops Lesson A complete English lesson covering how and when to use full stops. The lesson explains what a sentence is and when we need to use full stops. It focuses on the use of full stops only and not capital letters as I have found that children can struggle with learning both at the same time. During the main input children have to identify sentences and add full stops. The lesson includes three differentiated worksheets and a plenary. Aimed at Early Years and Year 1 children although could be used as a recap session or as part of an intervention or booster for Year 2 children.

Sentence Writing Intervention A sentence writing booster/intervention that can be printed off to create a booklet of activity worksheets for Early Years and Key Stage 1 children who are struggling with writing. The PowerPoint covers five weeks and introduces children to 35 of the 100 high frequency words/hfw. Each week covers reading the focus high frequency words, writing the focus words, cutting and sticking words to make a sentence and then writing a dictated sentence. I have used this activity to encourage children to write sentences with capital letters and full stops and to hold and repeat the sentence in their head.
